Back to the main page of the Chimaera Myth
The purpose of this set of photos is to show views and details of the Chimera of Arezzo which are unavailable in art books and can be appreciated - normally - only by looking at the statue itself at short range. To take such photos on the original (presently at the National Archeology museum, in Firenze) would have been perhaps possible but certainly complex in view of the permission needed. Therefore the author has taken these pictures on an original size replica with the kind permission of the owners, Galleria Frilli in Firenze. The replica presently at the Galleria Frilli is of excellent quality and it was made using the molds made on the original in the 1930s and used to cast the two replicas presently in Arezzo. Having examined in detail the replica and the original, the author can say that, although the two statues are not exactly identical, the differences are truly minimal (for comparison, the first photo is a scan of a picture of the original Chimera from a standard artbook). Should you wish to have a high resolution version of one of these images, just write me.
